Mesmerized

Later this month, I'm taking starting a 6 week class on Copperplate Calligraphy and I cannot wait.

I find it so incredibly lovely. Even watching it being written by someone else lulls me into a state of general "ahhhhh".

This video is almost eight minutes long and shows only the word "Flourishing" being written. A nice reminder that there is beauty in slowness.

Etsy Preview

This little guy will be on my Etsy site later this week. Cute, cute, cute! I'm having fun spending time with him for now. Did I mention he's a bank?

The Commodores are just here because I love this cover art and the album only cost me a dollar.

How Was Your Weekend?

I could definitely never be classified as a "weekend warrior" type. Unless warriors dress in cotton pj pants and fuzzy socks while drinking whole pots of coffee and looking at design magazines.

But, I'm gonna say this weekend was unusually "productive" for me.

The freckled boy and I finally transferred the little dinosaurs (for some reason, that's what I call them...no real explanation why...) that he gave me for Valentine's Day into their permanent homes - a giant wooden bowl and this little upcycled candle tin. They're from Etsy shop So Succulent in case you feel inspired.

I sketched ideas for our wedding/going away party invite. Is it bad luck to show them here? I can't decide....

And we found some cute vintage items for my Etsy shop (including a little owl bank with an Anthropologie feel...no pics yet- but soon) I'm thinking of showing it on the blog before posting to Etsy to give you first chance at him. Sooooo cute!

This little tray is also pretty adorable, and will make its way to my shop soon.

I picked up a Lionel Richie and The Commodores vinyl album too...but that's all mine. ;)

Whew! Time for a nap.

A Note on Positivity from the Great Roger Miller

*Find Roger Miller at the bottom of this post. The rest is just me ramumbleventing.

Bad days. They happen. They're nothing new. See: Julius Caesar, Sonny Bono, Eeyore...but it's the people who have bad decades that I just can't understand.

Everyone knows them. It goes like this:

You: "Good morning (Name Here). How are you today?"

Name Here: "Meh." (long pause........................................................) "How are you?"

You: (thinking) My sock got wet on the walk to work this morning and my rent is late and I accidentally bought sugar-free cookies.

You: (speaking) "I'm great. Thanks."

The funny thing is, at least in my experience, by the end of the day, you may not really be "great", but you'll certainly be in a better place than Name Here. Really.

I have to remind myself of this often. I'm not saying one should be a fake Pollyanna Golightly.

Just be yourself - expecting something amazing to happen on a random Tuesday.

My Irrational Nerdy Excitement

Books. Books. Books. They clutter up my dining table, spaces under the bed, 2 books deep in shelves. Art books, cookbooks, Russian literature books, poetry books, books on birds and trees and bugs, shallow chic lit books...

Last Christmas, I received a Nook Color from family and friends. I think everyone (myself included) was silently hoping for instant transformative minimalism. I would walk around wearing only white with my hair in a bun reading digitally with no papercuts.

Instead, now I find books I love on the Nook and read them there and buy a second hard copy for bubble bath library time.

Alas, I'm incurable. I especially heart vintage books, with their occasionally marbled front pages, or the strikingly simple orange Penguin covers like the one in yesterday's post.

Through creating yesterday's Etsy post and the exciting world of interweb, I found the blog http://canalways.wordpress.com.

In my perusing, I saw a post mentioning that the blog's author found a collection of postcards created from vintage Penguin Book Covers. Dear reader, I squealed aloud at the thought. Then, it occurred to me that although the blog is "across the pond", the aforementioned interweb might lead me to something similar here in the States.

AND IT DID!

The set of 100 different designs comes in a faux book box. AnnnndIwant it! The End.

Oh, sorry, how rude of me, you can find them here. The End. Really this time :)
